Reading the Church's Bible by Nate Wall-Bowering

Time: Winter 2025, Evening TBD Location: St John's College, online options available

This course trains students to be conversant with Christian Scripture. Throughout the course students will be introduced to the historical dimensions of biblical literature as understood with modern scholarship. The course will focus, however, on the Bible’s ongoing role as a sacred text within the life of the Christian churches and on the skills required to interpret the Bible credibly, critically and imaginatively. To that end, students will learn key hermeneutical skills, take up select critical frameworks, and practice raising a variety of theological, ethical, and political questions as readers of Christian Scripture.
